Common security threats and how we guard against them

Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack

A DDoS attack is intended to take down a website by overwhelming servers with requests. In a DDoS attack, requests come from hundreds or thousands of IP addresses that likely have also been compromised and tricked into requesting your website over and over. A DDoS attack overloads servers, slows them down significantly, or temporarily takes them offline, preventing customers from accessing the website and completing orders.

How do we protect against this?

We protect against DDoS attacks by monitoring for unusual IP addresses and disallowing IP addresses that fall outside a predetermined pattern using high tech historical and forecasting technologies.

Man-in-the-middle attack

In a man-in-the-middle attack, an attacker listens in on a user’s communication within a website. For example, if someone is using a mobile device on an unprotected Wi-Fi network, an attacker may try to intercept the internet communications between that person and our website – hence man in the middle – and communicate with your you pretending to be us.

How do we protect against this?

We protect against this by having a secured website and not only the shopping cart.  We've invested in Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology throughout every page of our website.  You can verify every page of our website is secure by looking for HTTPpreceding the webpage you are on.  Using a mobile device, site security can be verified by looking for a closed padlock just before our store name in your browser bar.
